BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Steven Andrew Short, age 38, of Bluefield, West Virginia, was sentenced to prison yesterday by Mercer County Circuit Court Judge William Sadler.

Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Brian K. Cochran said that Short was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 2-10 years in prison for Driving Under the Influence Causing Serious Bodily Injury, in addition to the maximum penalty of 1 year for Driving Under the Influence Causing Bodily Injury.  Cochran said the Judge ordered that both sentences run consecutively to each other.

According to Cochran, Short was indicted by a Mercer County Grand Jury in February 2023 for the July 10, 2022, motor vehicle crash that occurred on Gardner Road, near Princeton.  Cochran said, “Short’s actions of driving a vehicle while under the influence of illicit drugs caused a horrific crash and caused life-altering injuries to a young Mercer County couple.”  “Based on his actions and his prior criminal record, the Judge did the right thing by sending him to prison.”  Cochran expressed his appreciation to the EMS and Fire Department officials who responded to the scene and treated the victims in this case and further thanked the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department for its outstanding investigation.  “The Sheriff’s Office really did a great job from investigating the scene all the way through obtaining the medical evidence necessary to obtain a conviction in this case.”  “The great police work by our officers is what led to this prison sentence.”
