Bluefield University made a statement that said while members of Bluefield University do not want to see the programs end, after consideration from the Bluefield University Board of Trustees it was recommended to close on-campus Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and to pause the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialization of the Master of Science in Nursing.

According to the statement from Bluefield University, the end of the on-campus Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and pausing the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialization of the Master of Science in Nursing is due to high costs to keep the programs running, as well as low enrollment.

While the on-campus Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is ending, the online RN to BSN and the MSN programs will still be available.

According to Nelson, the plans will help affected students transition as smoothly as possible and give them alternative options to complete their programs at Bluefield State University.
