The Canadian coffee-and-doughnuts chain Tim Hortons plans to soon open its first Kansas City area location.

“We are happy to announce that we are targeting to open a Tim Hortons in the Blue Springs area in late 2024, early 2025,” the company said in a statement Tuesday.

It will be located just off Interstate 70, at 1128 N.W. Woods Chapel Road, formerly home to a Burger King. It will have a freestanding drive-thru, the company said.

Founded in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1964, the chain is known for menu items like the Double Double — coffee with two creams and two sugars — and Timbits, which are like doughnut holes. It also serves sandwiches, wraps and chicken strips.

Tim Hortons has nearly 6,000 locations across the globe, more than half of them in Canada, where there’s a Tim Hortons for approximately every 10,000 residents .

The company has long had a presence in Great Lakes states like Michigan, Ohio and New York. But it has lately been expanding deeper into the U.S. It now has more than 600 U.S. locations, including in Georgia, Texas, West Virginia and Indiana.

There were once six Tim Hortons in the St. Louis area, but they all closed in 2017 following a legal dispute between the franchise owner and its corporate parent, Restaurant Brands International, which also owns Popeye’s, Burger King and Firehouse Subs.
