BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — A 56-year-old man was hospitalized after a shooting in Bloomington Friday night.

According to a press release, officers responded to the 100 block of South Curry Pike on a report of a person shot around 10:55 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they located an injured man.

The Bloomington Police Department reported that the man was transported to an area hospital to receive treatment for multiple gunshot wounds. The man’s injuries required surgery.

BPD indicated that he is expected to survive, though his current condition is unknown.

When they received initial reports about the incident, police also learned multiple suspects were seen running from the apartment where the shooting allegedly took place.

Around 11:01 p.m., officers observed two subjects walking along a tree line between Highland Village Church and a Kroger parking lot. The individuals began to run when police approached them.

BPD reported that a male suspect tried to hide in a small patch of woods before he was taken into custody. A female suspect was also arrested.

Police identified the suspects as 19-year-old Annabella Winter Jackson of Bloomington and 35-year-old Devance Anthony Gayles of Michigan City.

BPD searched the area the suspects were found in and later discovered a handgun wrapped in a sweatshirt in a nearby wooded location.

Law enforcement conducted interviews with Gayles and Jackson. The duo was then transported to the Monroe County Jail.

Gayles has been preliminarily charged with attempted murder, burglary, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, criminal recklessness and pointing a firearm. Jackson already had an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

The warrant was related to a probation violation. Jackson was on probation for a case involving battery resulting in bodily injury. She now also faces a misdemeanor resisting law enforcement charge.

BPD reported that both suspects were located within five minutes of the initial 911 call. They were taken into custody within nine minutes of the call. The firearm was found 45 minutes after police were first called to the area.
