BLANCHARD, Mich. (WWJ) — A Mid-Michigan man has died following a drunken one-vehicle crash on Saturday.

The Isabella County Sheriff’s Office says the 62-year-old man was killed after crashing a 1997 Ford Explorer in the area of Blanchard and Britton Roads, near Blanchard — about 20 miles west of Mt. Pleasant.

Investigators learned the man had “consumed a high amount of alcohol before getting upset with family and leaving in his vehicle,” according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

The man crashed a short time later, not far from the home he had just left, officials said.

The Explorer rolled multiple times and he was ejected from the SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say alcohol and speed contributed to the crash.

The man, whose name has not been released pending family notification, was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the sheriff’s office.
