‘Best mistake’ lands woman $1 million Powerball prize

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WJW) – Miriam Long planned on buying a Mega Millions ticket when the jackpot was $893 million.

But when Long went to a lottery machine in Blacksburg, Virginia, she hit the wrong button and accidentally purchased a Powerball ticket.

That “accidental” purchase was a winner. A big one.

The ticket matched five numbers in the March 18 Powerball drawing.

Long won $1 million dollars.

“It’s the best mistake of my life!” she said in a press release .

The winning numbers were 10-17-20-39-44, and the Powerball number was 16.

She matched everything but the Powerball. It was an automated pick.

When she discovered how much she’d won, Long said she couldn’t believe it.

“My heart was pounding!” she said. “It’s overwhelming!”

The store that sold the ticket will get a $10,000 prize.
