BISMARCK, ND ( KXNET ) — The Bismarck Police Department is hosting Coffee with a Cop for community members who wish to talk about community issues, build relationships, and enjoy a cup of coffee.

Most contact with law enforcement occurs during emergencies or emotional situations which are not the best time to build relationships — and some people may feel as though officers are unapproachable on the street.

Coffee with a Cop gives community members the chance to ask questions while also getting to learn more about the department’s work in neighborhoods.

According to a news release, everyone is invited to the event, which will take place on May 24 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Star Gifts and Coffee Lodge inside the Gateway Mall.

This get-together helps to break down those barriers and invite a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” said an officer in the news release. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”
