    Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health to hold free Narcan training

    BISMARCK, ND — ( KXNET ) — Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is proud to partner with Heartview to provide free Narcan training for the community.

    The training will be held on Thursday, May 16 at noon, and will take place at BBPH’s new building located at 407 South 26th Street in Bismarck.

    Participants will learn how to recognize an opioid overdose, and how to properly administer Narcan when it is needed.

    Narcan is a medication that temporarily restores breathing during an overdose of fentanyl or other opioids. Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health receives funds from State Opioid Response Grants to provide Narcan training and prescription drug take-back events.

    “At the event,” explained MBA Community Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator Susan Kahler, “I will be providing the training along with Kathy from Heartview Foundation. We’ll be giving you an overview of what’s happening in the Bismarck-Burleigh county area with opioids, how to use Narcan, and what the signs and symptoms of an overdose.”

    You must register for the event ahead of time and can do so by calling Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health or by finding their event on Eventbrite .

    Each attendee will also receive a free Narcan kit that they can take home.
