According to the Birmingham Planning Commission records, Wilders Bistro at 460 N. Old Woodward is currently under construction. The project was approved back in June 2022, but multiple setbacks were encountered. What Now Detroit spoke with Samy Eid , the restaurateur behind the concept. Eid confirmed that the project is still under development but refused to provide any additional comment.

Based in Birmingham, Eid serves up Middle Eastern delicacies at his South Old Woodward restaurant Phoenicia , which Eid’s parents originally opened. Meanwhile, Wilders Bistro is Eid’s adventure into European cuisine, specifically French cuisine, after more than three years of planning.

“We’re a food-focused restaurant team that loves the city of Birmingham and would love to make another addition. This is one we’ve been waiting for and we’re very excited and honored that you guys are taking the time to consider it.” Eid told Downtown News Magazine when Wilders first received city approval.

The site plan proposes to demolish an existing two-story building in the address’s parking lot to build a new three-story building. Wilders Bistro will have 55 seats in the first-floor dining room and an additional 22 seats on the patio. The second floor will include a private dining room with up to 10 seats.

Once open, Wilders plans to serve dinner from Tuesday through Sunday from 5 to 11 p.m. and weekend brunches on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu follows inspirations “drawn from the bustling French bistros that define the urban streetscape and energy of modern Paris” and will include fresh seafood options and prime chops. The space, going along with the modern bistro atmosphere, will feature elegant wood, velvet, and marble surfaces decorated by vibrant green lives.

No project timeline is available at this point.
