Matthews Brothers honored with Distinguished Citizen Award

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Baden-Powell Council is honoring four local brothers for their commitment to bettering the community through leadership and service.

The council, which serves Boy Scouts in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions of New York State, has named Jim, Doug, John, and Rob Matthews as the recipients of the Broome County Distinguished Citizen Award. The award, now in its 38th year, recognizes individuals or families who have made significant contributions to the Broome County area.

The Matthews Brothers currently serve as the operators of Matthews Auto Group. They were chosen by a committee of previous award recipients for their exceptional leadership, community service, and dedication to making Broome County a better place to live. Their father, Jim Matthews, was presented with the Distinguished Citizen Award in 1993.

“We are thrilled to recognize Jim, Doug, John, and Rob Matthews for their outstanding service and commitment to our community,” said Matthew Bull, Scout Executive of the Baden-Powell Council. “Their impact on Broome County has been truly inspiring, and we are proud to honor them with this award.”
