NMU hosts career day for UP high school students
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Northern Michigan University is again giving high school students exposure to endless possibilities for future career opportunities. NMU partnered with Michigan Works Wednesday to host a career day at the Northern Center for over 600 U.P. high school sophomores and juniors from Alger, Baraga, Dickinson, Gogebic and Marquette counties. NMU staff said there were over 75 employees in every job field including the trades and the armed forces. Marquette Senior High School Sophomore Bodi Bennett said he is excited to see what career path will interest him.
Ironwood parolee arrested for driving under the influence, possession of methamphetamine
UPPER MICHIGAN (WLUC) - An Ironwood man on parole was arrested on May 6 for operating under the influence of controlled substances and possession of methamphetamine. In April, the Gogebic Iron Area Narcotics team received information that Brian Panek was involved in distributing methamphetamine throughout the Gogebic County Area. Panek is a City of Ironwood resident, and he was released from prison on 08/31/2022 for possession of methamphetamine and unlawfully driving away an automobile in Mecosta County, Michigan, and is currently on parole with the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Upper Peninsula Peace Officer Memorial to be held May 15 in Ironwood
IRONWOOD, MI— The Michigan State Police, Wakefield Post is holding a memorial service for fallen Upper Peninsula peace officers next week. The service will take place at Gogebic Community College. It will feature a roll call of fallen officers, a laying of the wreath, and a performance of Taps. The event will also include a keynote speech by Art and Tiffany Romans, family of Ironwood native and fallen officer Ervin Romans II.
NDG's Porchfest showcases local talent to raise money for women's centre
For its eighth edition, Porchfest NDG is raising money for Women on the Rise, an organization that offers a wide range of services and programs for women in the west-central Montreal neighbourhood. MI Clean Water grants to help UP communities upgrade water infrastructure
LANSING, MI— Seven Upper Peninsula municipalities have received state grants to upgrade water infrastructure. Ironwood has been given a Drinking Water State Revolving Fund grant of $11,021,000. It will be used to replace about 15,300 feet of water main and associated lead and galvanized water service lines in the northwest portion of the city. Another 40 lead service lines will be replaced throughout Ironwood.

WAKEFIELD - A Little League pitcher in Massachusetts threw a perfect game Wednesday night.Twelve-year-old Tyler Fabiano struck out 16 of the 18 hitters he faced for the Wakefield Cardinals in their 1-0 win over the Royals. Little League games are just six innings.
