    Maroons split Saturday double feature

HANNAHVILLE — The Menominee High School baseball team split a twinbill against North Central and Ironwood on Saturday.

The Maroons got the better of North Central 9-6 but were unable to sustain their momentum against Ironwood, as the Red Devils hammered Menominee 10-2 in the nightcap.

Menominee overcame a three-run deficit against the Jets, with a sacrifice fly by Gable Buck making it a 3-1 game in the top of the second.

Landan Bardowski scored in the third and fourth innings while Aiden Sevon crossed home plate on an error to put the Maroons on top 4-3.

Buck hit another sac-fly to score Garrett Carlson before Drew Olsen tacked on an RBI as the two teams battled to a 6-6 deadlock through five innings.

Cam Gauthier drove in a pair of runs on a single while an RBI from Torin Davis put the Maroons on top 9-6.

Victory slipped away from Menominee against the Red Devils after the Maroons watched a one-run lead evaporate behind a four-run explosion in the third inning by Ironwood.

Bardowski collected three hits in four trips to the plate against Ironwood. Carlson added an RBI and a pair of stolen bases.

    Due up

Menominee: The Maroons travel to Escanaba to face the Eskymos in Great Northern Conference action on Thursday at 4 p.m.
