A historic flatiron building on Market slips into default

A century-old flatiron building that’s a Market Street landmark has defaulted on its mortgage, according to city tax records. The owner of the Phelan Building, built in 1908 at 780 Market St., was issued a notice of default at the end of October for failing to make payments on a $215 million loan.

Fire ‘extensively damages' two Sacramento County businesses, Metro Fire says

A fire damaged two businesses at a small strip mall in Foothill Farms on Saturday morning, according to the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. The fire started outside the strip mall in the 5500 block of Hillsdale Boulevard and spread to a tire shop and a taqueria, said Metro Fire Battalion Chief Brian Gonsalves. The businesses sustained “extensive damage,” Gonsalves said. Photos provided by Metro Fire showed debris scattered throughout AB Tires and Brakes and smoke and water damage inside Taqueria Mi Familia. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, Gonsalves said.
