BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Bend man was critically injured and his passenger sustained minor injuries in a rollover crash of a pickup truck early Wednesday morning on Alfalfa Market Road, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said. Deputies said they found alcohol to be a contributing factor.

Deputies were dispatched around 3 a.m. to a cellphone’s automatic crash notification on Alfalfa Market Road near milepost 6, Sergeant Jason Wall said.

Deputies found a 2004 Ford F-350 pickup had rolled several times while heading east on the road, Wall said.

The 28-year-old male driver was trapped in the vehicle with apparent major injuries, Wall said. A male passenger, standing outside of the pickup, had apparent minor injuries.

Bend Fire and Rescue and Alfalfa Fire responded to the scene. An Air Link helicopter also was launched while fire personnel extricated the driver, who was flown to St. Charles Bend. A hospital spokeswoman said he was in critical condition Wednesday afternoon.

The crash closed Alfalfa Market Road for a time early Wednesday.

“During the course of the investigation, deputies determined alcohol to be a contributing factor” to the crash, Wall said in a news release. He added that the investigation was continuing and more information could be released later.
