Belvidere North’s Braeden Brown Illinois State Bound

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Illinois State is about to get one heck of a track and field athlete from the Rockford area. Tuesday afternoon Belvidere North senior Braeden Brown signed with ISU.

Brown holds North’s school record in the 400 meter run having recently been clocked in a blazing time of 49.30 seconds. Brown is also a standout high jumper. He’s qualified for the State Track & Field Meet the last two years and is a good bet to make it again this year.

ISU plans to groom him to compete in the decathlon.

“I feel like the running events, I’ll be fine in like the indoor 60 and the hundred and stuff like that. The hurdles I feel like will be a little bit of a challenge. The throws I’ll have to put on some pounds and some muscle to do that, but I feel like I will be ready for the challenge when it presents itself.”

Brown also was an all-conference basketball player for Belvidere North, and he was a member of North’s NIC-10 champion golf team this past fall.
