BELOIT, Wis. (WTVO) – The suspect behind a stabbing attack in Beloit was shot and killed by police on Thursday afternoon, while one officer was hurt in the process.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice said the Beloit Police Department responded to reports of a stabbing in the 2000 block of Frederick Street just before 3:30 p.m. Officers found a woman with stab wounds, and said the suspect was holding a weapon while making “violent” threats to a second person they believed was inside the home.

Investigators said initial attempts to use a less-lethal option to disarm the suspect did not work. A second officer then shot the suspect, who died at the scene. They learned later that no one else was inside the home.

The stabbing victim went to the hospital and was transferred to a trauma center, where she is in stable condition. One of the officers was treated for minor injuries.

All of the officers involved are on administrative leave, following the agency’s policy. They were wearing body cameras during the incident.

The Wisconsin DOJ’s Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the case, and said all of the law enforcement agencies involved are cooperating.
