BELOIT — The number 13 was truly unlucky for the Beloit College softball team as it was swept in a doubleheader with Lake Forest on Saturday 13-4, 13-0 at the Strong Complex Softball Field.

In game one, an RBI single by Kaylee Witte and a two-run homer to left-center field by Allison Olson helped Beloit take a 2-1 lead before the Foresters scored four runs in the third inning and two in the fourth.

Briana Arteaga’s one-run single in the fifth cut the lead to 7-4 but the Buccaneers allowed six runs in the sixth and put an end to the game after the frame via the mercy rule.

Witte and Olson each had two hits while Siddalee Meyers smacked a double for Beloit, who was outhit 13-8 and committed six errors.

Witte took the loss as she allowed 12 runs (seven earned) on 12 hits and three walks while striking out three in five innings. Helena Harrison allowed one earned run on one hit in an inning pitched.

In the nightcap, the Bucs (8-26, 2-10 Midwest Conference) could only manage singles from Meyers and Witte as Lake Forest (22-11-1, 12-0) racked up 15 hits and ended the game in five innings.

Five different players hit homers for the Foresters, two of which came in a six-run second inning.

Harrison took the loss for Beloit as she allowed five earned runs on six hits in an inning. Witte threw the final four innings and allowed eight earned runs on nine hits.

Beloit will next travel to Ripon for a doubleheader with the Red Hawks on Monday.
