BELOIT — The only thing that could slow down Beloit Memorial’s Allen brothers’ strong start to the golfing season was a gusty wind that made conditions tough at Krueger-Haskell Golf Course on Tuesday for the second Southern Lakes Conference Major of the season.
Senior Max Allen shot a 91 while sophomore brother Marcus shot a 96 at the meet. The older Allen had placed fifth at the first SLC major of the season, held last Wednesday at Twin Lakes Country Club, and followed it up with a strong outing at the Monona Grove Invite where shot a 7 over par 78. Marcus had shot an 82.
Waterford won the meet after scoring 317 as a team while Westosha Central was second (336). Wolverines’ junior Jackson Heath won the individual medal after shooting a 74.
The Purple Knights will next compete at a meet hosted by Edgewood at Blackhawk Country Club in Madison on Monday.
• BASEBALL: NORTH BOONE 13, BYRON 7: The Vikings answered a five-run top of the third from the Tigers with three in the bottom half of the inning and eight in the fourth to propel themselves to a Big Northern Conference win on Monday evening.
Byron (12-3-1, 4-1 BNC) led 5-1 when an RBI single from RJ Wolski, a bases-loaded walk from JJ Ford and a run-scoring fielder’s choice by Matt Self cut the deficit to one.
Eli Lopez, Wolski, and Ford smacked RBI singles in the big fourth while Chris Doetch added a two-run double as North Boone (13-5, 4-2) took the lead for good.
Lopez and Wolski both had three hits and two RBI in the 11-hit performance while Brayden Sunden added a double.
Lopez earned the win from the mound after allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in 5 1-3 innings.
