BELOIT, WI (WTVO/WQRF) — Centerfielder Mark Coley II has been a bit of an all-or-nothing hitter since being drafted by the Miami Marlins last year in the 17th round of the MLB Draft. Beloit Sky Carp fans saw both sides of that Tuesday afternoon in Coley’s Sky Carp debut.

The Marlins’ 22nd ranked prospect struck out three times, but Coley also smashed a grand slam home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, and the Sky Carp defeated the South Bend Cubs 11-5. Coley was just promoted from low A Jupiter, Florida of the Florida State League where in eight games this season he hit .375 with no homeruns, five RBIs and had nine steals in ten attempts.

There were several other hitting stars for the Sky Carp including second baseman Josh Zamora . He hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. That was one of two hits for Zamora. DH Cam Barstad drilled a double over the centerfielder in the third inning that drove in a pair of runs. Barstad drove in four runs total. Shortstop Johnny Olmstead had a pair of hits and he drove in a run.

The Sky Carp put five runs on the board in both the third and fourth innings. Relief pitcher Kyle Crigger held the Cubs in check after they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Crigger pitched three innings of shutout baseball while striking out five batters.

The Sky Carp and the Cubs will go at it five more times this week including an early 11:10 a.m. start Wednesday weather permitting.
