Parents rally to save Downriver Catholic school from closure
LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – It’s an all-hands-on-deck emergency for a downriver school as parents do whatever they can to raise money to keep it from closing. Low enrollment has become a big issue at St. John Paul II Classical Catholic School in Lincoln Park. Now the archdiocese has set a deadline to raise necessary funds to keep the school, located near Fort Street and Moran Avenue, from shutting down for good.

School bus driver who saved choking girl gets recognition in Southgate
SOUTHGATE, Mich. – A Metro Detroit school bus driver is being recognized as a local hero after rescuing a choking student who had just been dropped off. Christina McIver was on her usual route one afternoon, dropping off students from Northpointe Elementary in Southgate. One student, 7-year-old Skyler, got off the bus and walked toward her mother.
Man convicted of kidnapping, raping 13-year-old to be paroled after appeal denied
ANN ARBOR, MI – A man convicted of kidnapping and raping a 13-year-old girl will be released on parole after a judge denied an emergency appeal. John Robert Lee, 44, is scheduled to be leave the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility in Jackson sometime in early May after the Michigan Parole Board granted him freedom for a second time, according to Kyle Kaminski, spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Driver dies after one-vehicle crash in Frenchtown Township
FRENCHTOWN TWP. — A driver from Florida died after the pickup he was driving went off the road and through a field before crashing into a ditch. The crash was reported at 5:19 p.m. Monday, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said in a news release. Deputies' preliminary investigation showed Dennis E. Allen Jr., 69, of Beverly Hills, Florida, was driving a maroon 2014 Ford F-150 pickup northwest on Enrico Fermi Drive, northwest of Leroux Road, in Frenchtown Township. For unknown reasons, the pickup left the roadway to the east, traveling over railroad tracks and entering into a field. The pickup then traveled in a southeast direction, entering into a drainage ditch and coming to rest.

And by the end of 2024, they hope to have an even more robust menu by relocating their office to 300 West Michigan Avenue. Officials at Ypsilanti Health are hoping that this move to Ypsi's downtown space will not only offer them the ability to expand their services provided to include things, like radiology and specialty care--things that just aren't quite feasible with the space they currently occupy-- but also to become more centralized and accessible to the majority of Ypsi residents. ANN ARBOR, MI -- Bright neon signs, arcade games and the legacy of Pinball Pete’s won’t be disappearing from the Ann Arbor landscape any time soon. Ted Arnold, co-owner of the iconic arcade, has confirmed he’s signed a 20-year-lease at 500 E. Liberty St. in the Carver-Gunn Building, with the help of Colliers International Ann Arbor. It will keep the business alive, he said, despite plans to demolish Pinball Pete’s current home.
