DeSantis' destruction of New College is hard to watch, accept
As the parent of a New College graduate, I have found it increasingly difficult to watch the ongoing destruction of our revered honors college. On June 1, Gov. Ron DeSantis sneaked onto campus to bestow praise on President Richard Corcoran for transforming the college from a “woke indoctrination center.” The fact is, as far as I know, DeSantis has never attended a class or visited with students to be able to demonstrate any understanding of the curriculum or research taking place at New College.
Sarasota School Board poised to approve glowing evaluation of Superintendent Terry Connor
The Sarasota County School Board is set to approve a glowing performance review for first-year superintendent Terry Connor at its upcoming board meeting. All five board members rated Connor's performance as a 4 out of 5 or higher, with board chairwoman Karen Rose and board member Robyn Marinelli giving Connor top marks, according to documents posted to the school board agenda for the June 18 meeting. His cumulative evaluation earned him a "distinguished" rating, reflecting 22 out of 25 possible points earned in his assessment.

Five outstanding Sarasota County Schools educators were honored recently with the Ripple Effect Teacher Award for their impact in the classroom and beyond. Leaders from the school district and the Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation honored the winners in a series of surprise presentations at their schools. Created by Barancik Foundation in memory of Chuck and Margie Barancik to celebrate exceptional Sarasota County public school teachers, the Ripple Effect Award includes a $5,000 gift.
