BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley City Manager Recruitment meeting scheduled for Thursday has been cancelled according to a notice from the City of Beckley.

The latest in a series of over half a dozen such planned gatherings that went unfulfilled, Thursday’s cancellation follows a similarly scrapped session just one week prior.

The news of the most recent cancellation came on Thursday afternoon, just hours prior to the beginning of the scheduled Beckley City Manager Recruitment meeting.

During a recruitment meeting last month that did go forward as planned, members of Beckley’s Common Council approved the hiring of a recruitment agency to assist  in the recruitment process.

Out-of-state agency recruitment agency, Baker Tilly will be brought on to utilize its resources to assist the City of Beckley in establishing a pool of qualified candidates to fill the role of City Manager.

Baker Tilly will perform the “full scope of services” requested by the city for a fee of $26,950, according to City of Beckley Attorney William File.

The candidate selected to serve as City Manager will ultimate assume many of the responsibilities previously filled by the individual in the Strong Mayor position.

Recently elected mayoral candidate Ryan Neal has stated that he would be willing to serve in the capacity of a Strong Mayor or in conjunction with a City Manager candidate.
