Area fire crews prepped for wildfires
Fire crews around the state are preparing for potential wildfires due to the red flag warnings.
Fire weather watch issued for Greenwood County due to extreme fire conditions expected Tuesday; Area fire crews quell out of control burn Sunday
The National Weather Service is anticipating extreme fire danger later this week and as such has issued a fire weather watch affecting a portion of the KVOE listening area. The watch covers Greenwood County from Tuesday morning to Tuesday evening with wind gusts as high as 20 to 30 mph and relative humidity around 19 percent forecasted. With the watch in place, outdoor burning is not banned at this time, however, it is highly discouraged as any fires that develop could be difficult to control and can spread rapidly if they become out of control.

Redler Institute of Culinary Arts Preps for the Next Phase
Butler Community College’s culinary arts school, located in Andover, is preparing for changes coming with the 2024-2025 academic year. The Redler Institute of Culinary Arts has been largely in the care of Chefs Luis and Alicia Peña. Recently, the culinary couple announced they will depart the institute beginning with the 2024 academic year to pursue other culinary interests. Both chefs will remain active with the Redler Institute throughout the spring and summer semesters.

High school wrestling wraps up this weekend with the State Boys and Girls Tournaments in Salina. Area wrestlers made a solid showing at the state tournament as Creyo Koop (Boys 165) of Howard-West Elk, Kenna Miles (Girls 110) of Fort Scott, and Reese Clements (Girls 135) and Kiley Dillow (Girls 170) both of Chanute take home State Titles. Emma Hall of Coffeyville-Field Kindley placed 2nd at 105 pounds while Layla Tindle of Fredonia placed 3rd in the 115 weight class.

Circle student 2x champ of entrepreneurship challenge
On Wednesday afternoon eight students from Andover and Circle High School were present to compete at the Butler County Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge hosted by the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce. Entrepreneurs with the three best business plans were given checks to better their business and education. Two students from Circle and one student from Andover High School placed.

Douglass 47, Belle Plaine 38 — Douglass’ Brock Stiner scored a game-high 14 points. Heights 60, Kapaun 49 — Heights’ TJ WIlliams scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the final period, Jalihn Timmons scored 16 and Aven M’boule scored 10. Williams had seven rebounds and four assists, and Amalachi Wilkins had six rebounds and five assists. Kapaun’s Corbin Johnson hit four threes and had 17 points, and Will Thengvall scored 16.
West Elk Wrestlers Off to State
State wrestling championships begin today, and the West Elk Patriots are celebrating their participating athletes. West Elk is sending four wrestlers to Salina for the championships, seniors Kayla Wright and Evan Coble, as well as junior Creyo Koop, and sophomore Edward Metcalf. The school held a special send-off assembly this morning at the high school.
El Dorado man found safe in Ark City
An El Dorado man reported as missing has been located by Arkansas City Police Department this afternoon. Larry G. Wescott, 71 years old, lost contact with his family and friends on January 31. After several weeks of not being able to locate or contact him, his family began to worry and filed a missing person’s report on February 12 with the El Dorado Police Department.
