    Police: 22-year-old arrested for Battle Creek shooting

    BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A man is facing charges for a shooting that sent nearby Battle Creek Central High School into lockdown Tuesday, police say.

    Officers did not name the 22-year-old suspect, who is from Battle Creek. He faces a charge of assault with intent to murder, weapons charges and two warrants related to the shooting.

    It happened May 7 around 1:30 p.m. on West Van Buren Street, right outside Battle Creek Central High School. A 55-year-old man told police he was driving when an SUV followed him down the street and started shooting. Of multiple gunshots, one hit the man’s car, police said. No one was hurt.

    PD: No injuries in shooting near Battle Creek school

    Schools in the area were placed into lockdown for 40 minutes while police investigated. Battle Creek Police Department’s Gang Suppression Unit investigated and found the suspect was in a vehicle the area of North Avenue and Garfield Avenue Thursday. When they pulled the vehicle over, the suspect ran away but police were able to arrest him.

    He was booked into the Calhoun County Jail. Police say the shooting was targeted.
