A 48-year-old Battle Creek man is in stable condition after allegedly stabbing himself multiple times with an X-Acto knife inside a Springfield car dealership Monday afternoon.

Deputies were called to a car dealership on Dickman Road at 3:11 p.m. Monday for a stabbing victim, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office. Authorities declined to specify at which dealership the incident took place.

Deputies learned the 48-year-old man had entered the dealership enquiring about a vehicle donation when he allegedly became confrontational with staff. As the conversation escalated, the man allegedly pulled out an X-Acto knife and began stabbing himself several times in the abdomen, police said.

Staff immediately called 911. Deputies conducting a property check in an adjacent parking lot responded within minutes, police said.

Once on scene, deputies secured the knife and the man was treated for his self-inflicted stab wounds. No staff or bystanders were injured in the incident, police said.

The man was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office and medical staff are seeking mental health treatment for the man, police said.
