    BATTLE CREEK - The B.O.B. is back!

    B.O.B. stands for the Best Of Battle Creek. Each week throughout the spring, we are going to ask, "Who is the Best Of Battle Creek?" as we look at each position in baseball and softball among the city and area high school teams.

    Nominations for each position come from the area baseball and softball coaches with a little information on each player, and then it will be up to the Enquirer readers to decide who is the B.O.B.?

    Hannah Burdette

    School: Marshall

    Class: Senior

    Why she is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area : A two-time all-league and all-district pick, Hannah Burdette hit .435 last year with 50 RBI. Throwing out 14 runners last year, she has a right arm that throws darts from behind the plate as the prospect has turned into a standout two-way catcher.

    Allie Cook

    School: Battle Creek Central

    Class: Junior

    Why she is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area : An All-City pick last year, Allie Cook is a key piece to the rebuilding project at Battle Creek Central. Showing good leadership skills and defensive ability behind the plate, the junior has helped the Bearcats showcase an improved team.

    Elizabeth Flores

    School: Gull Lake

    Class: Sophomore

    Why she is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area : Emerging as one of the key offensive leaders for Gull Lake, Elizabeth Flores is having a big sophomore season with a .317 batting average and 14 RBI early on. Working well with the pitching staff, she shows standout defensive skills.

    Reagan Henry

    School: Tekonsha

    Class: Junior

    Why she is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area : A member of the 2023 Enquirer All-Area team as well as being an all-league pick last year, Reagan Henry is emotional and statistical leader for the Tekonsha team. Physically tough behind the plate, the junior is batting .417 with a .920 fielding percentage.

    Lani Miller

    School: Homer

    Class: Freshman

    Why she is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area : A breakout freshman, Lani Miller brings a high softball IQ to the Homer team and good defensive skills. Miller is hitting .463 in the early going with three home runs and 33 RBI in 18 games so far as the Trojans have started 16-2.

    Hailey Talbert

    School: Climax-Scotts/St. Philip co-op

    Class: Senior

    Why she is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area : An Enquirer All-City pick last year and all-league selection, Hailey Talbert is a key offensive force for Climax-Scotts/St. Philip with a .444 batting average. With a big arm, the senior has developed into a nice two-way player.

    Claire VanDis

    School: Lakeview

    Class: Sophomore

    Why she is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area : A second-year starter, Claire VanDis was an All-City selection last year when she hit .440 ford the season with 46 RBI. Good defensively behind the plate, the sophomore shuts down the opponents running game, showcasing an impressive arm.

    Torrance Walling

    School: Pennfield

    Class: Senior

    Why she is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area : A senior captain and Interstate 8 Conference scholar athlete, Torrance Walling is an offensive catcher with a .323 batting average with 15 RBI and 13 runs scored. She has also been good on defense, throwing out five runners.

    Lydia Wells

    School: Bronson

    Class: Sophomore

    Why she is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area : The team's main catcher since she was a freshman, Lydia Wells earned all-district honors last year. Wells has good defensive skills with a good arm. Batting third in the lineup, she is hitting .419 with a slugging percentage of .605 with 15 stolen bases.

    Breegan Woodworth

    School: Harper Creek

    Class: Senior

    Why she is the best catcher in the Battle Creek area : A four-year varsity member who has started every game as catcher in her Harper Creek career. A team captain as a senior leader, she shows a strong arm with a .989 fielding percentage. She has thrown out seven runners this year.
