After being cut by the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats, tight end Thaddeus Moss has announced his retirement from football.

Moss, who played on the LSU Tigers’ 2019 National Championship team, is just 25 years old.

He announced the news Monday on X.

“It is always important to know when something has reached its end. Closing circles, shutting doors, finishing chapters, it doesn’t matter what we call it; what matters is to leave in the past those moments in life that are over. Thank You,” Moss said in his statement.

The son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss, Thaddeus Moss started his college career with the North Carolina State Wolfpack before transferring to LSU and winning the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship. Moss hauled in 47 receptions for 570 yards and four touchdowns in his lone season in Baton Rouge, but of the four touchdowns, three came in the College Football Playoff.

Moss had one touchdown reception in LSU’s 63-21 drubbing of the Oklahoma Sooners in the Peach Bowl and followed up that effort with two crucial scores during the 42-25 victory over the Clemson Tigers. Moss’ first touchdown of the game came with ten seconds left in the first half and put LSU up 11 going into the break, and his second came with five minutes left in the third quarter and put the Tigers up by 10, giving the team some breathing room heading into the fourth.

After the season, Moss declared for the NFL Draft and signed with the Washington Commanders as an undrafted free agent before being plagued by injuries and eventually released. Moss then signed with the Cincinnati Bengals but was plagued by injuries yet again, never appearing in an NFL game.

Moss won the 2023 USFL Championship with the Birmingham Stallions, but did not rejoin the team when it moved to the UFL for the 2024 season.
