LSU 2025 target Jamier Jones had an outstanding start to his final EYBL season on Friday, leading his Florida Rebels team to a blowout victory with highlight dunks, blocks, and winning plays. After the win, the No. 18 prospect in the country on the On3 Industry rankings released his top six teams to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Jones; top six teams are: Ohio State, Houston, South Carolina, LSU, Kansas, and Providence.

In addition, he also marked May 12 as the day he plans to announce his commitment decision. To this point in his recruitment, the four-star wing has taken an official visit to Providence and unofficial visits to South Carolina and LSU.

Jones talks relationship with LSU

Jones went on an unofficial visit to LSU back in the fall of 2023 with other 2025 prospects and now that visit looms large as he narrows down his list and approaches a decision. Also important is his connection with the coaching staff.

Assistant coaches Tim Kaine, Jeff Moore and Casey Long are all incredibly active in recruiting Jones, but Kaine has had a long-standing relationship with Jones as he finishes up his junior year of high school.

“It’s good, I chop it up with coach Kaine every day,” Jones said. “He’s a great guy. LSU is one of my top schools for sure. The unofficial last year was dope. The football game was great. The fans were crazy and it was a great experience.”

Jones’ decision to commit to a school so early in the cycle potentially puts the three schools who have hosted Jones in a better spot. LSU especially getting to show him the passion of the fan base, the food, the culture, and the facilities in the fall could still be playing in his head.

“It was an unofficial visit, but the atmosphere was crazy,” Jones said. “The fanbase was crazy. A lot of the people there were welcoming so that’s really good to have around you. I’ve known coach Kaine for a minute. He’s been the one keeping in contact with me. It’s been good. He checks in on me in school, off the court and on the court.”

LSU does not have a commitment for the 2025 class at the moment, but getting Jones would certainly spike interest in the men’s basketball program coming off of a solid season, ending 9-9 in SEC play and appearing in the NIT. Jones would also be Mat McMahon’s highest ranked commit in his time at LSU, showing that the recruting efforts are paying off. We’ll see in the coming days how the LSU staff feels with the commitment date approaching quickly.
