    BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Want to explore the best that Baton Rouge has to offer with your friends and family? The capital city has several attractions, things to do and places to visit for you to spend your weekend or day off at.

    Whether that is going on a tour through a museum, experiencing a live sporting event at one of the local universities, going to one of Louisiana’s state capitols, or visiting a live mascot, Baton Rouge has it all.

    1. USS Kidd

    The USS Kidd Veterans Museum is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. According to their website , admission into the museum is $14.63 for adults, $12.54 for veterans with a valid ID and $10.45 for children ages 5-12.

    2. Louisiana State Capitol

    The Louisiana State Capitol is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. There are several amenities that are featured at the state capitol including the observation deck, guided tours, and the gift shop.

    3. Louisiana’s Old State Capitol

    You will be able to take a guided tour through Louisiana’s Old State Capitol located at 100 North Blvd., Baton Rouge. According to their website , tours for groups are offered Tuesday through Friday.

    4. Tiger Stadium

    Tiger Stadium, located in the heart of LSU’s campus, is a spectacle for sporting fans. Enjoy a Saturday afternoon or night during the fall when the Tigers take the field at this historic stadium.

    5. LSU Rural Life Museum

    Take a self-guided tour of the LSU Rural Life Museum. The museum’s hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. According to the museum’s website , the tour of the museum is a minimum of two hours, and a tour of Windrush Garden lasts around 30 to 45 minutes.

    6. Mike the Tiger’s Habitat

    Mike the Tiger’s Habitat is located between LSU’s Tiger Stadium and the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Visitors can visit Mike the Tiger, the official live mascot of Louisiana State University.

    7. Capitol Park Museum

    Capitol Park Museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. According to its website , admission into the museum is $7 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, active military or students and free for children 6 and younger.

    8. Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center

    Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. According to the website , the nature center features a nature area/preserve, trails and a conservation area.

    9. Louisiana State University

    Louisiana State University is the flagship institution in the state. LSU has a student population of more than 35,000 and has 16 athletic teams at the Division I level, according to its website .

    10. Magnolia Mound Plantation

    The Magnolia Mound Plantation is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1-4 p.m. Sunday. According to the website , “Magnolia Mound’s mission is to illustrate and interpret the lifestyle of the French Creoles who formed the fascinating culture which still influences and pervades life in southern Louisiana.”
