A Carbondale filmmaker and an Alaskan Yup'ik fishing guide share the story behind 'School of Fish'
The adventure film genre tends to conjure up images of rugged mountaineers risking their lives to climb the tallest peaks in the world. However, at last week’s 5Point Adventure Film Festival in Carbondale, many of the stories on the big screen focused on the diversity of relationships people have with the wild places around them.
Explore A Ranch-Style Aspen Home On An Elk Migration Route
For an active Aspen couple with three grown children and eight grandkids, the decision to build a new residence centered on their constantly shifting need to accommodate family visits and guests. To meet this need, they desired flexible spaces that could rise up to a variety of occasions. “They wanted to put down roots and create a legacy property, one where they could gather and have fun with family and friends, but as guests leave, the house wouldn’t then feel overwhelmingly huge,” explains Denise Taylor, who tackled the interiors with co-designer Geneva Podolak Knox. Having observed many homes packed with extra bedrooms that often gather dust outside of holidays, the pair were up for the assignment. “All of the rooms multifunction here—the offices convert to guest rooms; a gaming table expands into a kid-friendly dining table—and every bit of square footage is designed to be enjoyed daily,” Taylor notes.
ACRA member says org should’ve polled
The letter from Aspen Chamber Resort Association President and CEO Debbie Braun (“ACRA implores officials to upgrade local airport,” April 26, Aspen Daily News) advocating for airport expansion was shocking to me. ACRA purports to represent over 775 local organizations — the only problem is they have never...

According to the company, he directed and designed more than 60 productions in his tenure — many of them at the theater’s permanent home in downtown Carbondale, which Winston helped establish.

Ski Straight into This Rustic-Chic Aspen Home
You’re never too young or old to hit the slopes. Ask anyone in the multigenerational family calling this three-level ski-in, ski-out residence home in Aspen, Colorado. The rustic 1990’s stone-and-glass dwelling presented a sensitive fit with its mountain surroundings but it was ripe for modernization. Rowland+Broughton’s architectural interventions include expansive, view-enhancing windows and sliding doors and the careful editing out of mullions on existing glazing. Inside the more than 9,000 square feet, most work occurred on the main and upper floors in the interest of opening up spaces.
