West Pipkin Road widening closes Yates Road for 60 days. Here's what you need to know
Drivers who regularly travel through Southwest Lakeland should be aware that West Pipkin Road widening is progressing, and that means yet another road closure. Polk County closed Yates Road on Monday, and the closure is expected to last 60 days. This will allow crews to install a new water main and drainage along Yates Road as it approaches Pipkin.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed Ashley Gibson Barnett of Lakeland to the Florida Council on Arts and Culture. She is one of four newly appointed members. Gibson Barnett is the owner of Barnett Creative LLC, the governor’s office said in a news release. She is a member of the Florida Southern College board of advisors, the Polk Museum of Art, the Florida Chamber Foundation and the Friends of Bonnet Springs Park Advisory Board. Gibson Barnett earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Florida Southern College in Lakeland and a master’s degree in law and her juris doctor degree from Emory University in Atlanta.
