Neighborly Bar ice fishing tourney draws 900-plus anglers
More than 900 registered anglers packed the ice Saturday for the annual Neighborly Bar Ice Fishing Tourney in Ashland, competing across eight species categories for a share of $10,000 in prizes, according to the bar’s Facebook page. Dayne Evanson took the northern category — and with it the King of the Lake designation — with a 12.9-pound fish, edging Jacob Vitek (12.5 lbs.) and Todd Chingo (12.15 lbs.). Chad Martin led the lake trout field with a 10.45-pound catch, followed by Mort at 10.1 pounds and Ron Swanson at 8.65 pounds. In the other trout/salmon category, Quentin Hoffmeister topped the field at 12.55 pounds. Perhaps the day’s most remarkable performance came in the burbot category, where Gary Barningham claimed all three podium spots, registering fish of 8.0, 7.8, and 7.05 pounds. Other category winners included Matt Marczak (walleye, 9.0 lbs.), Carter Nackers (perch, 2.2 lbs.), John Marion (crappie, 1.9 lbs.), and Eric Raspotnik (whitefish, 3.9 lbs.).
