Rails coaches review McDonell game, look ahead to showdown at Hayward
CHIPPEWA FALLS– In non-conference high school football at McDonell Central the Spooner Rail boys fell 40-22. Spooner coach Josh Tischer and assistant coach Patrick Hanson reviewed the game. Patrick Hanson “Offensively we were able to sustain some decent drives and run the ball well. As a team we ran the ball over 200 yards on the ground and had close to 70 in the air. “The goal this week was to find the run game and that’s what we were able to do. With Luke Nauertz having 21 carries for 116 yards with a touchdown, and Noah Wekseth having 19 carries for 88 yards, our seniors in the backfield combined for 40 carries totaling 204 yards. “In the passing game Jax Foss was 9 for 17 with 69 yards and two touchdowns, one being to Ben Eichten and the other being to Hurley Burke. Other receptions in the game went to DJ Johnson, Josh Hanson, and Ben Seim. “Looking forward to Hayward next week we hope to continue to build on our success of the running game from last week and our success of the passing game from week 1,” said coach Hanson. Northland College's Maxwell Forest to remain protected
For decades, students at Northland College would leave the Ashland campus to study, relax and recharge among the majestic pines and flowing waters of the White River at the 132-acre Mabel Cora Maxwell Nature Study area, just off State Highway 118, split between Ashland and Bayfield counties. Here, students would engage in environmental research, outdoor learning, and recreation amid the splendor of some of the best scenic beauty the north woods have to offer. The woods and water making up this treasure were deeded to Northland by Maxwell, with the understanding that Northland would care for and preserve the property for generations yet to come. Many of the college’s faculty, students and alumni as well as residents feared for the fate of the land and sought help to keep it as it has
