LSSU celebrates 77th annual commencement ceremony on Saturday
SAULT STE. MARIE — More than 300 students will walk across the stage and come out the other side as graduates this weekend in Sault Ste. Marie. Lake Superior State University's 2024 commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday at Taffy Abel Arena with LSSU graduate Claude Denker III as the commencement speaker.
Local mother hosts fundraiser for daughter at Cozy Corners on May 2
SAULT STE. MARIE — Community members are coming together to support a local child going through a difficult health crisis at a dinner fundraiser on May 2. Amelia Gordon, the 14-month-old daughter of local nursing assistant Allison Rader, has already undergone one surgery and will have to have more over the course of the next year.

Second phase of housing project for Soo Locks starts
The second phase of a housing project in Chippewa County started last week to ease up housing specifically for Soo Locks construction workers. The Kinross housing project officially opened its doors to tenants last July. Currently, it’s housing 55 workers, and with the summer construction starting up at the locks, more housing is needed. Southeastern Disaster Relief Services and the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation teamed up early last year to make this project happen.
Pickford earns a pair of shutout wins over Newberry
NEWBERRY - The Pickford Panthers scored a pair of convincing wins on the diamond on Thursday afternoon, shutting out Newberry 21-0 and 10-0 in a non-conference doubleheader. Pickford (6-4) travels to Rudyard on Monday, April 29. Newberry is also on the road on Monday, paying a visit to Sault Ste. Marie.
Help spruce up Sault Ste. Marie at annual spring clean-up on May 4
SAULT STE. MARIE — Spring has sprung in the Soo and lots of residents are coming together for an upcoming city-wide spring cleaning. Every year, dozens of volunteers come together to help pick up the trash that has accumulated over the winter. Sault residents walk across the entire city with trash bags picking up garbage and other debris that has been hiding under the snow on streets, in parks and between buildings.
