There’s a big illuminated X on the runway at Bangor International Airport.

That marks the temporary closure of the airport’s runway, according to officials.

The closure began at 8 a.m. Monday and will run through 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to Bangor International Airport.

That will be followed by closures from 8 a.m. May 13 to 3 p.m. May 15, and 8 a.m. May 21 to 3 p.m. May 22.

During those times, the runway length will be shortened, but airport officials said that the closures aren’t expected to affect travelers.

It’s part of a project to redo the runway, which typically needs to be done every 15 to 20 years. The project was supposed to begin late last month , but had to be delayed while Bangor International Airport awaited final approvals.
