A South Carolina woman is dead, and her boyfriend is accused of shooting her to death before setting a car ablaze with her body inside.

Jarrett Haskell Davis, 28, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, unlawful possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a felony offense, third-degree arson, and desecration of human remains. He’s accused of killing his girlfriend, 25-year-old Megan Bodiford, who was last seen on April 25 in Denmark, South Carolina, about 60 miles south of Columbia.

Before she went missing, she sent a disturbing text message to a friend.

“If you don’t hear from me in 30 minutes, he killed me,” the message said, according to FITSNews . “He has a gun.”

The Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office found a burned-out car with human remains that were later identified as Bodiford on April 30, about two miles from her home. The Sheriff’s Office requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigate. Detectives arrested Davis on Friday, warrants say.

Columbia NBC affiliate WIS obtained a copy of a search warrant, which said investigators collected an iPhone, security cameras and a baby monitor as evidence when they searched Davis and Bodiford’s home on Saturday.

Bodiford’s family told the TV station they were upset with cops because Davis had a domestic violence arrest warrant.

“If he would have been locked up the way that he was supposed to be the first time, maybe he wouldn’t have even gotten a chance to get this far with her,” her cousin Stephanie Nickens said in an interview with the outlet.

Bodiford was a mother to three daughters, ages 7, 4 and 4 months, a GoFundMe page said .

“I want everyone to focus on what a beautiful soul she had, just a wonderful mother that she was,” Givens told WIS. “She loved being around people. If you look on her social media, you see so many friends coming together and posting memories that they have of them with her.”

Davis is at the Bamberg County Jail without bond.
