The Triple Crown of horse racing rolled on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore , where Seize the Grey won the Preakness Stakes, ending Kentucky Derby champion Mystik Dan ’s chance to achieve the rare feat.

Jockey Jaime Torres pumped his fist atop Seize the Grey, who entered the race with 9-1 odds and finished comfortably ahead of 2-1 favorite Mystik Dan, as the horse crossed the finish line on a sloppy track in 1:56.82. The victory was the seventh for 88-year-old Wayne Lukas, the oldest trainer ever to have a horse win a Triple Crown race.

“Hats off to him, I mean, I’m in awe of what he just pulled off,” eight-time Preakness-winning trainer Bob Baffert said.

Seize the Grey led the field for nearly the entirety of the race, leaving Torres, who became interested in horse racing in 2019 while watching TV in Puerto Rico, with “no words.”

“I’m very excited, very excited and very thankful to all the people that have been beside me, helping me,” Torres said.

The 149th Preakness was the last iteration at Pimlico in its current configuration. It will be renovated and remain under construction for the 2025 race.

The Triple Crown is set to conclude on June 8 with the 156th Belmont Stakes at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga, New York. The event usually takes place at Belmont Park on Long Island, but construction there forced its relocation.
