The Rotary Club of Canton has awarded college scholarships to six Cherokee County graduating high school seniors. The club presented its Heart for Service scholarships May 14 at Canton City Hall with the student honorees and their families, teachers, and principals in attendance. Goshen Valley Foundation Opens Renovated Family Resource Center
CANTON — The Goshen Family Resource Center in Canton is now fully renovated to offer more services to the community. The center, located at 230 Marietta Highway in Canton, was renovated by The Goshen Valley Foundation, a local nonprofit focused on helping children in foster care. Early morning fire kills two in Jasper after neighbors hear loud explosion
JASPER, Ga. - Two people died in a house fire in Jasper early Monday morning. "They’ve lost everything," said neighbor Wanda O'Bryant. "Everything, in 20 minutes." The fire department got a call just before 7:48 a.m. on Oakmont Drive. He said his first crews were on the scene by 7:50 a.m., Jasper Fire Chief John Sherrer III said in a news release.

Cherokee County Students Place in State Career and Tech Contest
Two Cherokee County School District students earned statewide honors at Georgia’s Career and Technical Instruction Competition, the district announced. The competition offers students the opportunity to demonstrate skills from their chosen Career Pathway, with presentations judged by skilled professionals from that career field. Creekview High School junior Charlie Holderness earned first place in the state for his “Hypeman Holderness” advertising campaign competition entry. His CTI teacher is Ed Walker and his Career Pathway: Marketing and Management teacher is Ashley Jones. River Ridge High School ninth-grader Aiden Maxwell earned sixth place in the state in the CPR skills competition. His CTI teacher is Gabby Garza and his Career Pathway: Healthcare Science teacher is Callie Davis.
Cherokee High School Student Wins Maritza Mott Scholarship
A Cherokee High School graduating senior has won the annual Maritza Mott Scholarship, the Cherokee County School District announced. Brenda Hilario earned the $1,000 memorial scholarship, which is open to one graduating senior and awarded based on an application, essay questions and references. Hilario is the first in her family to attend college. She plans to study entrepreneurship at Kennesaw State University and then open her own business. ...
Suspects smash door at woman’s residence
MILTON, Ga. — A Milton woman reported to police May 4 that someone rang her doorbell, smashed the front door, then fled from her home on Wyndham Farms Drive. Police observed glass fragments inside the front hallway, door damage that will cost about $1,000 to fix, according to the incident report.
