BAIRD, Texas ( KTAB/KRBC ) – Three people have been injured and three have been killed in a two-vehicle collision that occurred in Callahan County.

Emergency crews responded to an incident at the intersection of West 3rd Street (FM 18) and Peyton Road in Baird at 2:10 a.m. on May 5. According to initial investigations, a Kia Spectra that was traveling south on Peyton Street came to a stop at a stop sign, while a Chevrolet truck was approaching the intersection on West 3rd.

The Kia moved forward and did not yield the right of way to the truck, causing a collision at the intersection. Three passengers were ejected from the Kia.

The driver of the Kia was transported to a nearby hospital and released with non-life-threatening injuries. One passenger was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition. The driver of the truck was treated and released by paramedics on the scene.

Three passengers in a Kia from Baird, including 18-year-old Layni Potter, 18-year-old Madi Buchanan, and a 16-year-old male, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Both drivers wore seatbelts during the accident, but none of the passengers had theirs.

One driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The Texas Department of Public Safety is still investigating the incident, and Sergeant Marc Couch mentioned that the information being collected could result in further charges.
