Police arrested Nieves, Mackey and two other suspects in early March. All four are accused of scattering the dismembered remains of Brown and Conneely at Bethpage State Park, Southards Pond Park and another wooded area in Babylon.

Less than an hour after being charged with concealing a human corpse, tampering with evidence, and hindering prosecution, all four suspects were released without bail . Their release sparked outrage among officials who blamed New York’s bail reform laws.
