Texas' Creepy, Abandoned 1920s Zoo Has A Spooky Atmosphere To Explore And An Unsolved Crime
In the center of Texas, less than 2 hours from the often overlooked, charming Western hub of Fort Worth, lies a small town with a long history and an unusual attraction. History buffs may know Cisco as the site of an infamous Santa Claus robbery in 1927 and the place where hospitality magnate Conrad Hilton purchased his first hotel, but this town of nearly 4,000 residents was once known for a different reason: It was home to an exotic zoo and the world's largest concrete swimming pool. Both attractions have been abandoned for decades, leaving a spooky and atmospheric recreational area to explore, courtesy of a newly maintained trail that takes you past creepy, empty animal cages, a graffitied bear den, and a murky, pond-like pool that still houses remnants of a diving board and swing set. Don't worry about running into any bears, though; the Cisco bear met a mysterious, tragic fate in the 1930s as part of an unsolved crime that possibly contributed to its closure.

Abilene mom simplifies dinner stress with meal prep | Exclusive
Alissa Guerra is a full-time mom and a full-time business owner, operating as the entrepreneurial mind and chief behind Mama Made Meal Prep , a local Abilene meal prep service. And Guerra's goal is simple. To take some of the stress off of her customers' plates by providing healthy and hearty, fully cooked meals while also prioritizing being a mom to her young son. "I'm so grateful that people love my food, and I'm getting to help families and, in turn, they're helping me financially be able to contribute to my family," said Guerra. "And I get to have five of those seven days with my son. I have to cook one day; I deliver the next, and the rest I still get to be a stay-at-home mom." It all started in January of 2026, when Guerra's mom said she wanted to start eating healthier and began asking Guerra to meal-prep lunches for her to bring to work. "I started making balanced meals just for her, and before long, people at her work were seeing and smelling her lunches and started asking where she got them," said Guerra. "And that's when I got the courage to start." At the time,

Abilene celebrates new mural honoring area history
For Abilene's future, the writing's on the wall . Or in this case, the paint. The Key City welcomed its latest mural July 3 with a ribbon cutting and free Cokes. Presented on the north-facing wall on a warehouse located at 113 Cherry St., the 100-foot-long western scene rises 25 feet to the building's roof. Artist Caleb Crisp was contracted by Texas Monthly Studio on behalf of Coca-Cola Southwest Beverages to paint the mural to celebrate the 250th birthday of the nation and to honor Texas towns. The scene depicts a cowboy astride his horse on a ridge, holding a bottle of Coke in his left hand. Buffalo can be seen running across the arid plain and in the distance, a modern city rises before the sun. Crisp said Jake Messa and a graffiti artist who only goes by Julian assisted him on the project. "It's past, present and future Abilene," Crisp said. "Kind of like both the blue collar aspect of (Abilene), but also the future we're going into with this new AI plant and all the other cool things that are being added." Erin Kubatzky, the director of operations for Texas Monthly Studio, explained how Abilene came to
