Vehicle, iced tea thefts charged against Rome woman
ROME — A 39-year-old woman is accused of stealing a vehicle that had been left running outside the Rome Health Emergency Room, according to the Rome Police Department. Police said Tara L. Vaughn, of Rome, stole a Volkswagen Jetta that had been left running outside the emergency room entrance at Rome Health around 1:15 a.m. March 2. Police said the victim was at the hospital to pick up a friend and had left their vehicle outside. Police said Vaughn was also at the hospital.
Unknown substance at Mohawk prison in Rome ruled safe
ROME — A suspicious substance found at the Mohawk Valley Correctional Facility in Rome on Friday was determined to not be dangerous or hazardous. Assistant Fire Chief Michael Liddy said there was an unknown substance “located inside the facility,” and a staff member called 911 shortly before 9:30 a.m. Friday. The Rome hazardous materials team responded, and one staff member exposed to the substance was decontaminated and taken to a local hospital “as a precaution,” as per protocol.
