Woman charged for leaving child in car outside bar: Report

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — An Austintown woman is facing an endangering children charge after reports state she left her child alone in a vehicle while she was drinking in a bar.

Shavon Hasley, 29, was arrested on a warrant on Sunday at the scene of a car accident. Hasley was the passenger in a car that crashed into a home in Youngstown this weekend.

The warrant was issued by the Austintown Police Department after an April 20 incident.

Police were called to Chipper’s Sports Bar on N. Edgehill Avenue just before 2 a.m. after receiving multiple calls stating an intoxicated driver was leaving the bar with a child in the backseat of the vehicle.

Witnesses told police that Hasley and a male had spent several hours inside the bar drinking while the 7-year-old child was outside in the vehicle, playing on a phone.

When police arrived at the scene, they reported that a large crowd had formed around Hasley’s car just down the road from the bar. Hasley told officers she did not know why everyone was yelling at her, reports state.

Officers noted that Hasley smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. Reports state she refused to undergo a field sobriety test but stumbled when walking. Based on her condition, police arrested her on an OVI charge. The child’s father was called to the scene to take him home.

Due to the numerous witness statements claiming Hasley left her child in the vehicle while at the bar and then proceeded to drive with the child in the car while intoxicated, she is also facing a charge of child endangering, the report stated.
