Decision to return to football pays off for O’Bryan as he joins Benedictine program
Ben O’Bryan hadn’t played football in a few years going into his senior season, but he decided to give it one last try. It turned out to be a good decision for O’Bryan, who certainly made the most of his short time with the Louisburg football team. It also gave him opportunities at the college level, as well.

In late 2023 the men at War Horses for Veterans got a call—Trevor Brazile and Miles Baker had a Relentless Remuda horse that might fit their program. “Ty Smith with Solo Select heard that Trevor Brazile was looking to donate a horse and wanted to know the right place for it to go,” said medically retired Marine Sgt. Jake Greenlief, who is the War Horses for Veterans Ranch Manager and Director of Equine Management.

Ronald L. Joeckel, age 74, of Paola, Kansas passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024, after battling Lewy Body Dementia. Ron was born in Paola, Kansas, to Albert and Earlene Joeckel on September 18, 1949. He grew up on his family’s farm west of Paola. Ron attended school in Paola and graduated from Paola High School in 1967. He loved cruising the square, working on the farm and spending time with friends. Following graduation, Ron enlisted in the Marines. He was in the reserves for 6 years.

Olathe woman injured after Lee’s Summit vehicle tailgates SUV along K-10
LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - An Olathe woman was injured in a collision on K-10 southwest of Lawrence after a Lee’s Summit vehicle tailgated and then rear-ended an SUV. The Douglas County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Office says that around 3:50 p.m. on Friday, July 26, emergency crews were called to the area of K-10 and Wakarusa Dr., along the South Lawrence Trafficway near the Clinton Lake Youth Sports Complex, with reports of a 2-vehicle collision.

Marvin William Barkis, age 81, of Louisburg, Kansas, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at North Point Skilled Nursing, Paola, Kansas. Marvin Barkis was very proud of having grown up on a farm in Kansas and having participated in the usual activities of a farm kid, like showing his 4-H calf at the Miami County Fair and running a haying crew to make extra money in summers. But when it came to choosing a livelihood, he realized that farmers work cold in the winter and hot in the summer, so he decided to study law. He attended Ottawa University (KS) and went on to Stanford Law School, graduating in 1968.
15-year-old dies, five other teens injured in suspected DWI crash in Jackson County
JACKSON COUNTY — Six Holden teenagers were involved in a fatal crash Tuesday night in Jackson County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a Chevrolet Cobalt and a Honda HR-V ran a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 50 and Milton Thompson Road. Both vehicles struck the highway median and became airborne.
