Walmart Wellness Day is Saturday
Woodburn Walmart will join other stores around the region in hosting Wellness Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18 Free glucose, cholesterol, BMI and blood pressure screenings will be available, along with affordable immunizations for COVID-19, RSV, tetanus, hepatitis and HPV at the pharmacy. Additionally, professionals from the Northwest Hub will also be at the Woodburn Walmart from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to provide bicycle inspections for cyclists ages 5 to 16 years. Walmart, located at 3002 Stacy Allison Way, is joined in partnership for this event by the Woodburn Police, Woodburn Fire and Northwest Hub. It is scheduled to take place at the west end of the parking lot near the maple trees.
Wilsonville awarded federal grant for Memorial Park playground
The Wilsonville Parks and Recreation Department will receive a $550,000 federal grant to help replace the playground in lower Memorial Park. Funding for the grant came from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which Parks Supervisor Dustin Schull said is given through the National Park Service. 100+: Oregon Rep Singers, Choral Arts Ensemble celebrate long life
The Oregon Repertory Singers capped their 50th year with a concert centered on the quest to find light – as a metaphor for hope. The choir’s performance, at the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts in Beaverton on the afternoon of April 27, presented two pieces that took listeners on this journey. The first was Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna, (Eternal Light), followed by the world premiere of Finding Light, by Filipino-American composer Matthew Lyon Hazzard. Both pieces were deftly accompanied by Camerata PYP and conducted by ORS Music Director Ethan Sperry.

There’s nothing like soaking up the sunlight with a good book, and the Beaverton City Library’s Local Author Fair is a chance to discover your new favorite writer. The biennial event was created in 2014 to give local authors an opportunity to network with each other and meet their readers. This year, the fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at the Beaverton City Library’s main branch, located at 12375 S.W. Fifth St. At the last fair, more than 200 people attended to visit with 37 local writers. This year, 45 authors are expected, spanning genres from children’s books to poetry to historical fiction and everything in between. A list of participating authors and links to their work can be accessed here. The event is free and geared toward readers of all ages.
