Alabama’s coaching staff has loaded up on inside linebackers in the spring, with four prospects at the position joining their 2025 class since the middle of March.
The Tide are, however, still searching for their first commitment at the “Wolf” position. This is considered one of — if not — the most important pass rushing roles on the team, but the player needs to be comfortable playing in space and lining up on the second level at times.
Auburn commitment Jakaleb Faulk is one of the players being eyed for this versatile position. He spoke with BamaOnLine about the latest between him and Alabama, including a recent conversation with Christian Robinson .
“Recently, Coach Robinson has been texting me every chance he gets,” Faulk told BOL. “[We spoke on Wednesday] about the players that he’s coached. How to keep this relationship going and building and getting even stronger throughout this process.”
Robinson is keeping up consistent contact with Faulk as the two hop on the phone twice a week, and text with each other almost every day. That bond began when Robinson was coaching at Auburn a couple of years ago, and has only continued to get stronger since he arrived at Bama.
“We actually have a great relationship,” Faulk said. “Great communication. He’s a great dude. There’s nothing else you can ask more from him. His history speaks for itself. He’s produced a lot of great players, and has actually turned one of his players into wanting to become a coach. They saw the impact that [Coach Robinson] had on him, and they wanted to reflect that onto other kids.
“He’s a great coach from what I’ve heard and a couple of people I’ve talked to. Also, just from knowing him a long time.”
Faulk made his way out to Tuscaloosa one time during the spring (March 26). He was planning to return for A-Day, but was unable to get back on campus for the spring game. An official visit to Alabama has been scheduled for the weekend of June 21-23.
The Tide continue to be a player for the No. 16 EDGE in the 2025 cycle.
“My interest level is actually getting a little higher,” Faulk said of Alabama. “It’s building more because of the communication and how dedicated he is to being my coach. He’s been doing a great job. He’s kept the communication ever since he was at Auburn. He exchanged messages at Baylor just to check up on me and my family… that shows how much of a good dude he is. It’s not always about ball.”
Returning to the topic of the ‘Wolf’ position, Robinson has been speaking with Faulk about how they’d see him fitting into Alabama’s 4-2-5 scheme.
“The reason they said I’d fit well into that is because of how versatile I am,” Faulk said. “How many different positions I can play. Basically, they can move me all over the field. I can play in space, I can put my hands in the dirt, rush on third down. That’s what they really like about me.”
Earlier this spring, Faulk got an up-close view of the new-look Bama team and staff during practice. He’s been impressed with what he’s seen and heard about how Kalen DeBoer is running things in Tuscaloosa thus far.
“The players, they’re very disciplined,” Faulk said. “They pay attention to detail. You can tell that they’re coached by great people… [Coach DeBoer] has been doing a great job. He also did great in Washington. I watched a little bit on them and how they developed their program. I’m watching how he’s carrying on Nick Saban’s legacy at Alabama. He’s doing a good job with it.”
Faulk previously told BOL that he was aiming to make a final decision on the first day of the Early Signing Period (Dec. 4). He’s now aiming for that to be made either during the middle of the season or at the end of his senior season.
