(Atlantic) One person was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle accident on Monday morning in Atlantic.

The Atlantic Police Department says the accident happened at 7:39 a.m. at 5th and Elm Streets. Cass EMS transported the driver of a Ford Explorer to Cass Health to treat minor injuries and unknown medical issues that may have caused the accident.

When Police arrived on the scene, they found a 1996 Explorer and a 2006 Dodge Durango at the intersection, with substantial damage to both vehicles. According to the investigation, for unknown reasons, the Ford Explorer westbound on 5th Street crossed the travel lane and collided with the Durango legally parked on 5th Street facing east.

Richter and Son’s Towing responded to the scene and pulled the two vehicles apart. Emergency responders could not open the doors and get the driver out of the Explorer for further evaluation.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Atlantic Police Department during the investigation.

No other details are being released at this time. If you have information regarding the accident, please call the Atlantic Police Department at 712-243-3512.
