Five golfers place in Top 10 at Indiana Women’s Golf Association State Amateur Championship
Five Hamilton County golfers reached the top 10 of the Indiana Women’s Golf Association State Amateur Championship, which took place this week at The Players Club in Muncie. The three-day, 54-hole event ran from July 22 to 24 at the Woodland Trails course. Westfield’s Samantha Brown was the county’s top finisher, placing fourth with a five under par score of 211.

Funds for Westfield sidewalk project increased
The Hamilton County Board of Commissioners approved an amended funding agreement for sidewalk installation in Westfield during their July 8 meeting. The funds are part of the city’s 2022 project year Community Development Block Grant disbursement from the Noblesville Housing Authority, which administers and provides housing and community development services for all of Hamilton County.
Nonprofit offers new affordable housing development in Fishers
A Hamilton County nonprofit that focuses on housing needs for low- to moderate-income residents is making another small dent in the county’s big lack of affordable housing. HAND, Inc., which stands for Hamilton County Area Neighborhood Development, is almost ready to open Cumberland Cottages, its newest housing development at the corner of Cumberland Road and 141st Street in Fishers, with an open house set for Aug. 1.
Meet Xavier Smith, now two-time All-American
Fishers’ Xavier Smith can call himself a two-time All-American wrestler, and he did it in the span of a few days. Smith was among several Hamilton County wrestlers that represented Indiana last week in the 2024 USMC/USAW 16U and Junior National Championships at Fargo, N.D. Wrestling at 175 pounds, Smith placed fifth in the 16U Men Freestyle event, then turned his attention to the 16U Men Greco-Roman bracket, where he would finish in third place at 175.
