The Atlanta Falcons didn’t hesitate in the efforts to select former Clemson defensive tackle Ruke Orhorhoro.

For that matter, Atlanta gave up a third-round selection to move up eight spots and take the All-ACC defender. The Falcons got their guy up front, so what’s the fit?

The floor is wide open at defensive tackle and that’s all Orhorhoro could ask for. Moving from a spot flanking Tyler Davis to nose tackle may be a bit of a tough transition, but nothing Orhorhoro can’t grow into with time.

Standing at 6-foot-4, 294 pounds, Orhorhoro could slide into that spot in the Falcons’ 3-4 defense. The big factor coming in is versatility, which is crucial in their defense.

Take a look at fellow Tiger Grady Jarrett, who has lined up all across the front for Atlanta. The same could come for Orhorhoro.

What makes him a good fit is his ability to do more than be a run stuffer. Nose tackles are meant to be bowling balls in the run game, and Orhorhoro can do more than just that.

In his final season at Clemson, he had five sacks and was a constant in opposing backfields. That’s what the Falcons need up front. He’s also constantly improved, raising the sack numbers each of his last three years as a Tiger.

Looking at the depth chart, Orhorhoro will compete with the likes of David Onyemata and Eddie Goldman for the spot in the middle while likely testing the waters on the edge.

There’s no better example than Jarrett next to him, and that could end up being his fit. Atlanta loved Orhorhoro’s versatility, and he’ll get to put it on full display for the Falcons.
