Shocking Video Shows Police Slamming Emory College Professor to Concrete During Pro-Palestine Protest

Shocking video out of Emory University showed Atlanta police officers slamming a female professor to the ground as students watch horrified.

Two professors were among at least 28 that were arrested by police on Thursday at a pro-Palestinian demonstration on campus. It’s one of a number of encampments at universities across the country protesting Israel’s ongoing strikes on Gaza.

Police deployed rubber bullets on Thursday to disperse crowds. Madi Olivier , editor in chief The Emory Wheel , told CNN on Friday that the school accused many protesters of not being affiliated with the school and trespassing, as well as disruptive behavior like throwing bottles. Olivier said they’d confirmed 20 of the 28 detained were affiliated with the school.

Shocking video out of the protest show Emory University economics professor Caroline Fohlin approaching officers as they are detaining students. She expresses concern over how the students are being treated. After an exchange with an officer, he tells her she’s under arrest and grabs her arm. It’s not clear in the video if Fohlin had physically touched him.

After she refuses to go to the ground, the officer knocks her to the ground and another officer arrives to help pin her as they cuff her. Fohlin screams in the video that the second officer knocked her head into concrete and she repeatedly says she’s a professor as horrified students call the police “fascists.”

Fohlin can be hear at one point saying she apologizes to the officers and she acted “impulsively.”

Noelle McAfee , the chair of the philosophy department at Emory University in Atlanta, could also be seen detained in video from the protest. Olivier said it was unclear if the professors were being charged. According to Olivier, students are demanding their school “cut all ties” to Israel.

There have also been more than 100 arrested in New York over a Columbia University pro-Palestinian encampment, including the daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).
